Create a quiz module

Now let’s create a Quiz module! Quizzes are interactive modules that allow you to create assessments with auto-grading capabilities.

Get ready to…

  • Create a quiz module
  • Add questions using the visual quiz builder
  • Configure scoring settings
  • Save and publish your quiz
  1. Navigate to your module library or course where you want to add a module.

  2. Click “Add Module” or “Create Activity” button.

  3. Select “Quiz” from the list of module types.

  4. Choose between:

    • Regular Quiz: For simple assessments with questions organized across pages
    • Container Quiz: For multi-section exams with independent timers and grading

    For this tutorial, select “Regular Quiz”.

  1. Enter a title for your quiz module, for example: “Paideia LMS Basics Quiz”

  2. Add a description: “Test your knowledge of Paideia LMS fundamentals.”

  3. Use the visual quiz builder to add questions:

    The quiz builder supports 10 question types:

    • Multiple Choice: Radio buttons with one correct answer
    • Short Answer: Single-line text input
    • Long Answer: Multi-line textarea
    • Fill in the Blank: Multiple inline text inputs
    • Choice: Checkbox group for multiple selections
    • Ranking: Drag-and-drop list for ordering items
    • Single Selection Matrix: Radio buttons in table layout
    • Multiple Selection Matrix: Select dropdowns per row
    • Whiteboard: Excalidraw canvas for drawing-based responses
    • Article: Rich text content for instructions
  4. Add your first question:

    • Click “Add Question” or drag a question type from the sidebar
    • Select “Multiple Choice”
    • Enter the question: “What database does Paideia LMS use?”
    • Add options:
      • “PostgreSQL” (correct)
      • “MySQL”
      • “MongoDB”
    • Set the correct answer
  5. Add a second question:

    • Select “Short Answer”
    • Enter the question: “What is the default frontend port for Paideia LMS?”
    • Set the correct answer: “3000”
    • Configure scoring (Simple, Weighted, Partial Match, etc.)
  1. Configure quiz settings:

    • Time limit: Set a maximum time for completing the quiz (optional)
    • Attempts: Choose unlimited, limited, or single attempt
    • Scoring: Configure how scores are calculated
    • Open/Close dates: Control when the quiz is available
  2. Configure scoring for each question:

    • Simple: All-or-nothing points
    • Weighted: Partial credit with weight multipliers
    • Rubric: Links to a rubric for manual grading
    • Manual: Instructor assigns points manually
    • Partial Match: Text matching with configurable threshold
    • Ranking: Points based on correct order
    • Matrix: Points per row with configurable modes
  1. Review your quiz in the preview pane.

  2. Choose your module status:

    • Draft: Save as draft if you want to continue editing later
    • Published: Publish if you’re ready to make it available to students
  3. Click “Save” or “Publish” to save your quiz module.

  4. Verify your quiz appears in your module library or course.
